Meet Karen — Designer, Maker, Upcycler, Storyteller

Hi, I’m Karen — the founder, designer, and creative heart behind Bear La Boo. My journey with sewing began when I was just 13 years old, and it’s been part of my life ever since. What started as a childhood passion grew into a lifelong craft, eventually leading me to earn a BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles.

Bear La Boo officially began in 2015, though in a very different form. I originally started by making handmade bears — which is where the name comes from. Over time, my creativity evolved, my confidence grew, and I found myself drawn deeper into the world of upcycling. I discovered how much joy there is in transforming forgotten fabrics into something bold, wearable, and completely unique.

Today, Bear La Boo is a celebration of sustainability, individuality, and the magic of giving old materials new life.

What I Create

Every piece I make is crafted from vintage, reclaimed, or upcycled fabrics — duvet covers, curtains, retro prints, and materials with stories woven into them. I love the challenge of turning these finds into clothing and accessories that feel joyful, expressive, and unlike anything on the high street.

My values shape everything I create:

A Creative Life Beyond the Sewing Machine

When I’m not sewing, I’m usually performing, writing, or causing a bit of mischief in the world of immersive entertainment.

I write and perform in murder mystery dinner experiences, which are an absolute blast and let me explore a completely different side of creativity. I’m also proudly known as “a Karen” at the Karen’s Experience, which is as chaotic and fun as it sounds.

And yes — I’m a huge Disney fan. I travel to the States regularly and like to think I’ve become a bit of a pro at navigating all the magic, queues, snacks, and hidden gems. If you ever need Disney tips, I’m your girl.
